135. JAMES LONGSTREET GENERAL ORDERS A good war-date manuscript Confederate General Order, 1p. large folio, Greenville, Tenn., March 23, 1864 issued by Lieut. General James Longstreet concerning furloughs for recruits in his army corps. In part: "General Orders No. 31a misapprehension having arisen in some portions of the army, as to the indulgences by Genl Orders 187the true meaning of that order is declared as not promising furloughs for recruits received from the camps of instruction hereafter all applications for furloughs will be endorsed by the Regt Comdr. The applicant[s] for furlough has been examined and mustered into the service and is now present doing duty with the company. If the recruit is under 18 years old the Regimental commander will state that his enlistment is within consent of his legal guardian. By command of Lieut. Genl. Longstreet, (signed) G. M.
