(1866 - 1933) "Gentleman Jim", American heavyweight boxing champion, knocked out John L. Sullivan after 21 rounds to win the world's championship. A.L.S. "Jas. J. Corbett" with initialed postscript on his wife's letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Bayside, Dec. 19, 1924, to a Mr. Wickes, in part: "...Your letter reached me today and I understand everything. Will arrive in Boston Jan. 29th maybe in the morn but will get in touch with you...Please don't worry I never break my word...". The bashful pugilist adds in his postscript: "Please don't have me speak at dinner". A couple of lightly toned spots, else very good, tacked at the fold into a custom leather folder with gilt lettering.
