JAMES CALHOUN
(1845 - 1876) American military officer, brother-in-law to George A. Custer and First Lieut. of Co. L, 7th Cavalry, killed in action on the Little Big Horn. Interesting content manuscript L.S., 1p. 4to., Fargo, Aug. 20, 1875, an attested retained "true copy" of a letter sent to Gen. GEORGE A. CUSTER at Fort Lincoln by one Thomas W. Causly. In part: "...Flannagan Brothers of Minneapolis will furnish first class monument for two hundred (200) dollars delivered on board cars. I have got several plans...I think you can get eight or ten percent knocked off...". Light toning, else very good.
