JAMES A. WALKER
(1832 - 1901) Confederate brigadier general, At the Battle of Fredericksburg he acted as brigade commander for Jubal Early. Stonewall Jackson, on his deathbed, requested that Walker be given command of the Stonewall Brigade and Walker led it during the Gettysburg Campaign, where the brigade participated in the attacks on Culp's Hill. He was badly wounded at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House in 1864 and sent home to recuperate. After the death of Pegram during the Petersburg Campaign, Walker was assigned command of the division. He led it until the surrender at Appomattox. Complete A.D.S. signed 'James A. Walker' in the text, 2pp. oblong 8vo., [Wytheville, 1882], his notarized statement concerning his ownership of shares in a railroad. Closely-cut, very good. Splits have been reinforced with tape on the back page.
