Description:

JAMES A. SEDDON
(1815-1880) Confederate Secretary of War from 1862 until February 1865, when he was sacked because of his removal of Johnston at Atlanta. Rare, fine association war-date L.S. as Secretary of War on War Department letterhead, 1p. 4to., Richmond, Apr. 7, 1863 to Secretary of the Treasury Christopher Memminger. In part: "...I have the honor to inclose for your perusal a letter from Genl. [John Bankhead] Magruder, and to request its return after you have read it...". One line of docket on verso slightly shows through, else very good.
