JAMES A. SEDDON
(1815-1880) Confederate Secretary of War from 1862 until February 1865, when he was sacked because of his removal of Johnston at Atlanta. Scarce war-date partly-printed D. S. "J. A. Seddon" as Secretary of War on imprinted War Department form, 1 p. legal folio, Richmond, Nov. 29, 1864 requesting from Secretary of the Treasury George Trenholm a warrant for $2,000 "in favor of Col. A.G. Taliferro, [23rd Va. Inf. WIA Kernstown, Va. & 2nd Mannassas] Enrolling officer, 7th Cong. District, University of Va in settlement of his act…". Also signed by Comptroller Louis Cruger and Auditor W.H.T. Taylor. Paste traces at upper left corner, edge wear, good condition.
