Description:

(1929 - 1994) First Lady and wife of John F. Kennedy, thirty-fifth President of the United States.
A GIDDY JACKIE IS THRILLED BY A SUCCESFUL TELEVISION CAMPAIGN PROGRAM Fine content A.L.S. 'Jackie' on her Washington, DC letterhead, 4pp. large 8vo., [n.d., ca. Nov. 2, 1960 - just days before her husband would be elected president, to Fred Coe, a producer at CBS, thanking him airing 'Calling for Kennedy', a 30 minute program that aired on Nov. 2, 1960. In part: '...Just an incoherent note in these last frenzied days, to let you know the Calling for Kennedy program was FANTASTIC. It was so hard for me to judge, having just seen & done it in bits & pieces. But when I saw it...with 200 highly critical ladies of the press & Democratic faithful, I was really delighted...since then, more letters, telegrams & phone calls...usually every coffee hour program like that has been rather a dud...I want to thank you & Bo Goldman...for all the effort, time annoyance, everything it caused you. I am so inexpressibly grateful, because if it hadn't been for you & your team, it would have been a rather Checkers-type program that everyone could make fun of...[a reference to opponent Richard Nixon's famous 1952 'Checkers' speech]...I really think it was superb. Someone told me we had a million more people than watched the President. All I can say, after having done it & watched how you all suffer, always to meet an unmeetable deadline, I consider politics a quiet out-to-pasture sort of life compared to being in television!...' Some marginal toning, a portion of one page slightly stained, else very good. The very advanced, ahead of its time format for the show had women around the country calling other women and asking about their concerns about the country and its future. The interviews were then aired on the program and candidate John F. Kennedy addressed each concern in turn.
