Description:

JACK RUBY
(1911 - 1967) Dallas nightclub owner who shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald following Oswald's assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Typed D.S., 2pp., folio., Dallas, May 22, 1959, a recording contract addendum between Al Kavelin of Cascade Records and the saxophonist Joe W. Johnson. The contract calls for various agreements between Cascade Records and Johnson; and countersigned by Ruby, who worked as Johnson's management and also by JOE W. JOHNSON and AL KAVELIN, all in blue ink. Johnson was a talented saxophone player who played with the rockabilly act The Deacons before going on to headline shows in the Joe Johnson Band. After his years of working at Ruby's club, Johnson went on to play saxophone for Ray Charles. Kavelin, before going into the recording business, was considered one of the best bandleaders of the 1930's. Minor folds and age toning with a torn upper left corner to all pages not affecting signature, else fine.
