Description:

'J'-STAMPED PASSPORT OF POLISH MOTHER AND HER SON
Passport issued to a Polish-Austrian woman 'Olga Glaser', bearing a large, red 'J' on the first page. The 'reisepass' was issued to 38-year-old Glaser in Vienna on Nov. 23, 1938, and still bears her identification photograph. The following page includes her particulars, also mentioning her 5-year-old son Kurt, born Sept. 4, 1933. The seventh page bears Viennese stamps indicating that travel limits may not be imposed and that approval for travel was granted on Nov. 30, 1938. Beneath this is a checkpoint stamp from Zevenaar, a city in the eastern Netherlands near the German border dated Dec. 23, 1938, and the adjoining page bears a Harwich immigration stamp from four days later, certifying them as 'transmigrants under bond'. The following page bears an immigration stamp from Halifax, Canada, declaring them as 'non-immigrants' for a period of 12 days. Finally, the ninth page indicates they were seen by Sydney customs agents on Feb. 10, 1939, likely cementing their final destination as Australia. Section of front cover absent, else fine condition.

Shipping

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
