Description:

Passport issued to an Austrian director 'Karl Humpoletz', bearing a large, red 'J' on the first page. The 'reisepass' was issued to the 55-year-old Humpoletz in Vienna on Nov. 16, 1938, still bears his identification photograph, and also bears his particulars on the adjoining page. The sixth page bears a stamp from the Dover Immigation Office certifying he landed as a transmigrant on November 25, 1938. The following page indicates he then traveled to Canada, being stamped by the Halifax immigration agency on December 10, 1938, admitting him as a non-citizen for 12 days. Following this, Humpoletz was seen by the customs office of Sydney, Australia on Jan. 14, 1939, and the next few pages permit him to travel to the United Kingdom and back again in July 1939. The final stamp in the document indicates his arrival in Australia on November 21, 1939. Just a couple of months before the outbreak of the war, the German Consulate in Sydney prolonged the expiration of his German passport until February 15, 1940. The front cover and first page has a large section missing at bottom, the covers have been rebound with three staples, else very good.
