Description:

J. EDGAR HOOVER / F.B.I. NATIONAL ACADEMY ARCHIVE
J.EDGAR HOOVER (1895 - 1972) Controversial Director of the F.B.I. who built the organization into the world's finest investigative agency. Vast collection of over 70 T.L.S., virtually all 1p. 4to. on F.B.I. letterhead, 1938 to 1962, all sent to Agent Jeptha S. Rogers who it appears was instrumental in establishing and promoting the F.B.I. National Academy. The content of the letters is largely administrative in nature, most advising Rogers of Hoover's happiness with his performance, as well as occasional notices of errors made which Hoover stresses should not happen again. Rogers is also advise of pay increases and other matters affecting his employment. Many of the letters are mounted within an album, but can be easily removed although glue residue remains on their verso. Also included: a keepsake group of autographs of fellow agents headed with the signatures of Hoover and CLYDE TOLSON, multiple photographs, several dozen congratulatory letters from police chiefs, politicians, and others, reference publications, and three photo albums with individual class photos and rosters of the "graduating sessions" of the F.B.I. National Academy from 1935 to 1962. A very comprehensive record of one man's service. According to the F.B.I.: "The FBI National Academy is a professional development course for U.S. and international law enforcement leaders. It serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide."
