Description:

A fantastic war-date uniform for a captain of the IX Troop Carrier Command Unit of the U.S. Air Force. Consists of a dark green gabardine wool tunic with the insignia patch for the unit sewn to the right upper sleeve. The shoulder straps display a pair of two linked silver bars, indicating the rank of captain. Both bottom lapels bear silver aviation pins. At the waist is a cloth belt and gilded brass buckle. The tunic is secured closed by three bright U.S. insignia buttons and one brown plastic button, over which the belt is fastened. The interior pocket at the left bears a brown cloth maker's tag, reading 'REGULATION ARMY OFFICER'S UNIFORM'. Inside the left interior pocket is an inspector's tag, giving the ‘37R' size and dating it ‘Dec. 1, 1942'. Regrettably unnamed within. Minor tarnish to the aviation pins and light discoloration to the tunic around the front buttons. This tunic is accompanied by light drab wool trousers which appear pink in a certain light. Secured closed by a zipper and two brown plastic buttons, stamped ‘N' at the right of the interior. This well-recognized World War II uniform was known as ‘Pinks and Greens'. Trivial spot of wear at the right knee, else fine. The overall mission of the IX Troop Carrier Command Unit was to provide air transport to all Allied airborne divisions of the European Theater, primarily using the Douglas C-47 Skytrain and the Douglas C-53 Skytrooper. The unit participated in Operations Neptune, Market Garden, and Varsity.
