Description:

(IWO JIMA) JOSEPH ROSENTHAL
American press photographer who covered the Pacific during World War II, took the famous photograph of Marines hoisting the flag on Iwo Jima. Excellent original photograph showing a memorial service at the American cemetery at Iwo Jima with a squadron of B-29's flying overhead in tribute. Annotated in another hand on verso: "While B-29's dip low overhead in salute, memorial services are held at Fifth Marine Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima. Mt. Surabichi is in the background". A few minor spots (as shown) that do little to detract, else very good to fine condition.
