A great group of three pieces signed by the heroes of Iwo Jima, includes: CHARLES W. LINDBERG (1920-2007) U.S. Marine who was part of the combat patrol that climbed Mount Suribachi and raised the first of two U.S. flags on the summit during the battle of Iwo Jima. Fine S.P. 8 x 10 in. b/w, a reproduction image of Lindberg and his comrades who raised the first flag, signed in full and adding: '1st Flag Raiser, Iwo Jima Feb, 23, 1945 10:30 A.M.' Of the 40 men in Lindberg's platoon who mounted Suribachi, 36 would be killed or wounded in action for the island would be secured. WITH: RAYMOND JACOBS (1926-2008) S.P. 11.5 x 8.25 in. b/w, a contemporary copy of an image of Jacobs and others fastening the flag on to the pole atop Suribachi; and JOHN BRADLEY (1923-1994) Navy Hospital corpsman and recipient of the Navy Cross for his extraordinary heroism as a member of the patrol that captured Suribachi and raised the U.S. flag.
