Description:


(1884 - 1943) Japanese Marshal Admiral of the Navy and commander-in-chief of the Combined Fleet during World War II. Responsible for major battles, such as Pearl Harbor and Midway, he died when American code breakers identified his flight plans, and his plane was shot down. A very rare signed poem, 2pp. 9 x 10.75 in., [n.p.] dated 1942 on the verso, in full: 'Year of the Chrysanthemum', signed by Yamamoto on the face. Accompanied by two postcards, both 5.5 in. x 3. 5 in., Japan, 1942, one with an image of Yamamoto standing on the deck of a ship, and the other bearing a drawing of Yamamoto's flagship Nagato, dated Dec. 8, 1942 with an untranslated message. The poem is affixed to a piece of canvas with minor foxing, else fine.

Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight.
