Description:

ISAAC R. TRIMBLE
(1802 - 1888) Confederate major general who led Pender's forces during Picket's charge at Gettysburg after the former was wounded. He was severally wounded, losing a leg and captured. A superb album page removed from an autograph book from the prisoner of war camp at Johnson's Island where Trimble was incarcerated after his capture at Gettysburg. Trimble's inscription reads in full: "I. R. Trimble of Maryland, Maj. Genl. P.A.C.S., wounded and captured, Gettysburg, July 3, 1863, Johnson's Island, Feb. 13, 1864". Also signing on the same page is a major on Trimble's staff: "Co[?] Carvel Call Major & Asst. Adjt. Genl. P.A.C.S. Staff of Maj. Gen Trimble", as well as a member of Stuart's cavalry: "Thos. Hollingsworth Maryland Stuart's Cavalry Corps. P.A.C.S.". On the verso is a listing of a number of officers and enlisted men of various ranks, presumably a list of some of those incarcerated at Johnson's Island at that time. Slight staining on right margin largely away from all writing, some show-through otherwise very good condition. Hollingsworth was captured on July 7, 1863 and was held at Camp Chase, Fort Delaware, Johnson's Island, and Point Lookout.
