Description:

ISAAC HUGER
(1743 - 1797) Continental Army General who fought the Battle of Stono Ferry, and in the sieges of Savannah and Charleston. Huger served under General Nathaniel Greene and was also a close friend of Marquis de Lafayette. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. sm. folio, Charleston, July 2, 1785, a summons given to Shelby to be served upon a man owing a claimant 1,140 Pounds Sterling. Signed at left by AEDANUS BURKE (1743 –1802), soldier, slaveholder, judge, and United States Representative from South Carolina. On the verso, Huger signs an endorsement: '...I have by John Shelby my lawful Deputy served the within named Defendant with a true copy of this writ with a Notice thereon endorsed pursuant to an act of General Assembly'. Very good, with photo of an image of Huger. Offset toned spot in text from seal on recto, else very good.
