Description:

ISAAC HUGER AND AEDANUS BURKE
ISAAC HUGER (1743 - 1797) Continental Army general, fought and was wounded at the Battle of Stono Ferry, commanded the South Carolina and Georgia militia during the siege of Savannah, and fought at Guilford Courthouse. Partly D.S. as Sheriff of Charleston District, 1p. sm. folio, Charleston, Mar. 15, 1785, notice that he has served a defendant with a true copy of a writ described on the reverse of the document, boldly signed at bottom. Some show-through of fixative for the state seal on recto, else fine. Recto is the printed writ concerning an order to summon one Thomas Singleton of Charleston to respond to a charge of neglecting a debt, signed by Judge AEDANUS BURKE who famously attacked the Society of the Cincinnati. Very good.
