Description:

"IMPERIALISTS AND REACTIONARIES ARE ALL JUST PAPER TIGERS"
Colorful Chinese political poster, "Imperialists and Reactionaries are All Just Paper Tigers" ([n.p.], Xinhua News Agency), 1966, 10 1/2" x 15 1/4", depicting an injured tiger as a representation of Western imperialism burning over an open flame. The poster was printed as part of a gallery exhibition on anti-imperialist art. The phrase "Paper Tiger" was used by Mao to describe American imperialism in 1956: "In appearance it is very powerful but in reality it is nothing to be afraid of; it is a paper tiger. Outwardly a tiger, it is made of paper, unable to withstand the wind and the rain. I believe that it is nothing but a paper tiger." Folds, with one small tear at the bottom edge, else very good to fine."
