Description:

Good lot of five salesman's sample boards, each 11 3/4" x 15 3/4", between them featuring approx. 130 pieces of Imperial-era German metal insignia, almost all unidentifiable to us but believed to be primarily civilian in nature. These include: patriotic badges featuring Kaiser Wilhelm II and German flags; insignia for auto and boating clubs; equestrian and ice skating insignia; target competition badges; a series of aviation badges featuring the early Etrich Taube monoplane; images of dogs, horses, children, cars, sailing ships, soccer players, a lizard, and birds; and much else. The largest piece of insignia measures 2" dia., and it is likely that the examples presented here are smaller samples of the full-sized products offered by the manufacturer. Each piece is mounted to the board with string and is labeled with an inventory number in black ink, but unfortunately no clues as to the identity of the manufacturer can be found. Each board shows empty spaces where insignia have been removed or lost, and the board themselves show wear and some bumps and chips to the edges, while the insignia themselves generally remain in very good condition. Worthy of further research, and should be seen.
