Description:

Rare and most desirable silver-plated iron presentation goblet, 7 3/4" x 3 3/4" dia., an "Ehrenbecher fur dem Sieger in Luftkampf" ("Honor Cup for the Victor in Aerial Combat"), presented to a victorious pilot on the occasion their first "kill". The goblet shows a lightly hammered finished overall, and the side bears a stamped scene depicting an eagle with outspread wings attacking a second eagle as it lies prone on the ground. The base is encircled by the inscription "Dem Sieger im Luftkampf" in raised Gothic script, and the entire piece rests on four ball-shaped feet. The underside bears a small mark depicting the crowned eagle cipher of Frederick the Great, with the inscription "Chef Des Feldflugwesens" ("Chief of Field Air Forces"). As this example is constructed of silver-plated iron, it does not bear the hallmarks seen on silver examples. Shows even tarnish overall, with small spots of oxidation to one foot and the inside surface of the base, with additional oxidation spotting to the interior, still in very good, attractive condition.
