Description:

II ABTEILUNG, 39 PANZER REGIMENT 39 STANDARTE POLE RING
Very desirable pole ring from the standard of the II Abteilung/39 Panzer Regiment. The polished steel ring, 2" dia., is deeply engraved: "II/Pz. Rgt. 39". and it bears raised hubs at top and bottom. Three pins which once held the ring together upon the pole were removed, allowing the ring to be slipped off the shaft. Fine condition. The 39th Panzer Reg., a two battalion unit formed at St. Poelten and Vienna, was incorporated into the 17th Panzer Division. The 17th fought in the 1941 thrust to take Moscow, once destroying 100 tanks in a single day. It was pushed back to Orel; where it held until December, 1942. Despite having only 30 tanks left, the 17th actively participated in efforts to relieve Stalingrad and was finally reduced to only eight tanks. Reinforced, it was heavily engaged in the retreat across Poland and resisting the Russians east of the Vistula, ending the war in the pocket east of Prague. A great relic from a hard-fighting regiment.
