Carte-de-Visite of Private Joseph P. VanHorn of the 17th Ohio Infantry, a regiment in which he served from 1861 to 1865. Identified below oval image on recto: Inscribed on verso (possibly in VanHorn's hand), "Presented by J. P. Vanhorn to Hester Vanhorn" The 17th Ohio saw action at Corinth, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, and Sherman's march in the Carolinas. Moderate soiling, else fine condition.
