Description:

IDENTIFIED CRASHED R.A.F. P-47 ENGINE VALVE
A relic from a crashed RAF P-47 fighter, an 8" tall valve and bent valve stem with copper jacket recovered from the plane flown by Lt. Elwood Raymond of the 63rd Flight Squadron, 56th Flight Group. Raymond bailed-out near Bradwell on Sea Airfield (known as RAF Bradwell Bay) on the Dengie Peninsular in Essex on Sept. 18, 1944 after incurring flak damage over Arnhem. While Raymond's plane crashed near the emergency RAF base, the unfortunate pilot remains listed as MIA. From the personal collection of World War II and Civil War historian Michael Miner. Miner's thirty-year collection was built through an extensive system of contacts he developed with artifact hunters and diggers in Europe and the Far East, and he maintained careful records of the items he amassed.
