Description:

HUMORISTS AND ENTERTAINERS
A group of four items by famed humorists, the first GROUCHO MARX, fine content T.L.S. 1p. 4to., Beverly Hills, Aug. 30, 1966, to Syd, in part: "...Over the years I've lost your home address...Somebody once said, 'Gratuitous advice is not worth a God damn', but since you're an old friend of mine...here's the advice. I know all your books sell to a certain group - the literary crowd. If you want to increase the sale, I suggest you go to the Johnny Carson Show, the Merv Griffin Show, the Jack Douglas Show and any other show that you can get on...It's not very pleasant work, revealing yourself publicly, but with rare exceptions, this is what writing books has reduced itself to. So dive in and...you may become a great actor. With a white wig and a pillow under your vest, there's no reason why you couldn't play King Lear...". with JOHN BARRYMORE, inscription and signature on an album sheet with newspaper portrait affixed at lower right, unevenly toned. On verso is the signature of JOE PENNER; FRED ALLEN, T.L.S. 1p. 12mo., Nov. 22, [n.y.], to S. J. Perelman, in part: "...read the holiday pieces...several people up there mentioned it to me...these people who talked to me had read separate copies...holiday must be going like Truman packing up around Boston...to return this favor I am sending you a clipping [a newspaper ad for hat bands affixed to a sheet above letter] . If your fancy hat band is not adjustable you must have a puckered or cockled up mess on your hands or your brim after a sudden shower."; and ANNA HELD, bold signature on a small sheet, mounted. Four items.
