Description:

HUGO SUETTE
(1903 - 1949) Austrian SA leader, leader of the Deustschlandsberg district of the Nazi Party, involved in a series of war crimes towards the end of the war but escaped prosecution and died shortly after. Late war-date T.L.S. on personal letterhead in German, 1p. 4to., Deutschlandsberg, March 21, 1945, to fellow party member Ferdinand Truckenthaner regarding a recent death. In part: '...As I am told...the blood medalist Ferdinand Wedam, has now also died. Thus this party member, as holder of the highest order of the NSDAP, has fulfilled his oath to the Fuhrer...You and your wife have to bear heavy things. But I am convinced that in the end you, as a German, as a party member, and fellow campaigner of the Fuhrer, know that in such a difficult battle as the German people have to lead, it is precisely the best who have to fall again and again...' Boldly signed at the conclusion, slightly creased, else fine. 'Blood medalist' or 'Blutordenstrager' refers to individuals who had been honored with the Decoration of the Blood Order, an award originally given to party members during the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch but was later extended to others for a variety of criteria. The mentioned individuals above were likely recognized for being members of the Austrian branch of the Nazi Party during the July Putsch of 1934.
