A.Ms.S., 1p. 4to., Sussex, March 12, 1825, an excerpt from his novel 'Young Mischief', in full: 'Joan speaks - A Man wants to be free and ought to be free. I don't mean loose, any more than I mean that good women are necessarily jealous... I do so want you to go on telling Oliver that he must always be free. If he isn't free and himself how can I go on loving him? Some men are so noble that they give and give and give until there's nothing left but an exasperating shadow of nobility for a poor woman to care for.'
