Description:

HOWITZER TROPHY AWARD TO ARCHDUKE LEOPOLD SALVATOR
A wonderful presentation piece given to Archduke Leopold Salvator of Austria, a model of a large bore howitzer presented to the archduke in honor of his visit to an unknown army-related location during World War I. The model, apparently constructed of solid brass, may be rotated horizontally and the barrel of the cannon may be elevated as well. This artillery piece is mounted atop a massive piece of sculpted red marble with white veins, the entire presentation measuring about 13 x 10 in. A small brass plaque embedded into one end of the marble base is engraved in German: 'To commemorate the visit in the war year 1915 I.R.R.H. Archduke Leopold Salvator' Overall fine, worthy of a little cleaning. Archduke Leopold Salvator, Prince of Tuscany (1863-1931) held the title Archduke of Austria and was the son of Archduke Karl Salvator of Austria and Princess Maria Immaculata of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. An impressive piece.
