Thomas Gage as Commander-in-Chief of the British forces in North America, commanded forces at Bunker Hill, in New York and around Philadelphia, resigned in protest against British lack of support. Howe", 1p. 4to., "Seymour Place", [n.p., n.d.] to a gentleman, in part: "...Sam: Jones, the person I spoke to you of, confined in Newgate [Prison], having pestered me from day to day, may I beg you will let me know if there is...any prospect of his imprisonment being shortened or in any degree remitted..."
