Description:

Very rare postcard letter sent by Hans J. Muller to younger fellow students at his school in Gera, Kahla, Nov. 13, 1944. Muller writes from the underground REIMAHG facility at Kahla, under construction by slave labor in an effort to protect Me-262 jet production from Allied air attacks. In part: "...Dear Comrades...I am currently in special service with the Hitler Youth at Kahla...in three weeks I will be back in school..." Kahla was beside Walpersberg mountain in Thuringia, which was turned into an underground jet fighter manufacturing plant with a full mountaintop runway. The plant was to be operated by the REIMAHG works (Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring Werke). Although still vastly uncompleted by war's end, construction work inside and around the mountain was at an advanced state, and the plant became partially operational. Because of labor shortages, Hitler Youth were recruited for the hideous task of standing guard over the slave laborers. Sold with a second postcard, unused, showing another angle of the town. Very good.
