Description:

Printed invitation in German addressed to 'Reichsfuhrer SS Himmler', with gilt national eagle at top, 7.5 x 5 in., reading in full: 'The Fuhrer invites Mr. Reichsfuhrer SS Himmler on the occasion of the presence of Norwegian Minister President Mr. Victor Quisling for Breakfast on Friday, 13 February 1942...' The bottom-left bears the forwarding address 'House of the Fuhrer & Reichschancellor', and the bottom-right requests that an answer also be sent to 'The Fuhrer and Reichschancellor'. Two file holes, mounting remnants on the verso, else very good. VIDKUN QUISLING (1887-1945) was a Norwegian military officer, politician, and Nazi collaborator who nominally headed the government of Norway during the occupation of the country by Nazi Germany during World War II. On February 1,1942, Quisling was elected to the post of Minister-President of the national government. The appointment was accompanied by a banquet, rallying, and other celebrations by the Nasjonal Samling members. In his first speech, Quisling committed the government to closer ties with Germany. This invitation is no doubt associated with his 'promotion'. Quisling was put on trial during the legal purge in Norway after World War II and found guilty of various charges including embezzlement, murder and high treason, and was sentenced to death by firing squad.
