Description:

HITLER APPROVES SCHAUB'S INSIGNIA AS A MEMBER OF 'STOSSTRUPP ADOLF HITLER 1923'
Very rare partly-printed D.S., 1p. 10.5 x 14.75 in., Munich, Nov. 9, 1935, a certificate issued to 'Party Comrade Julius Schaub' stating: '...[Schaub] is a member of the Adolf Hitler Shock Troop 1923 and is entitled to wear the sleeve stripe hereby affixed to the honorary dress of the movement. Munich, Capital of the Movement, November 9, 1935'. Hitler's facsimile signature appears at bottom. Sold with the letter of transmittal which was enclosed with the document, sent to Schaub by FRIEDRICH GIESSELBRECHT (1895-1985) who joined the Nazi Party in 1923. Giesselbrecht was also a member of Hitler's bodyguard during the Putsch and was jailed at Landsburg with Hitler. He reached the rank of SA-Oberfuhrer in 1943. Giesselbrecht writes: '...Since I have not been able to speak to you for years and have only ever seen you briefly at most on November 9th, it was impossible for me to hand this certificate to you personally...' Both pieces are near fine, the document only having a bit of marginal wear. Stosstrupp-Hitler ('Shock-Troop-Hitler') was a short-lived bodyguard unit formed especially for the protection of Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler in 1923 and it was dedicated to his service alone. It would serve as the forerunner of Himmler's SS. JULIUS SCHAUB (1898-1967) was Hitler's chief personal adjutant and was sent to Munich to destroy Hitler's personal papers after the fall of Berlin. Also included is a large color photograph of Schaub. Three pieces.
