Rare assemblage, being an award document signed by Hirohito and as well as the cased medal presented to the recipient of the honor. The ornate document is a partly-printed D.S., 1p. 23 1/2" x 18 1/4", Tokyo, untranslated, but awarding a general membership in the Order of the Sacred Treasure. Hand-signed by the emperor with broad black brush strokes beneath his chop. Sold with the corresponding medal, the Order of the Sacred Treasure Grand Cross breast star. The medal is a most impressive item, measuring 3 1/8" across multiple white enameled rays emanating from a chrysanthemum at center, with interlocked red enamel circles laid atop the rays. Sold with the original leather and felt fitted case. The Order of the Sacred Treasure is a Japanese order established on January 4, 1888 by Emperor Meiji as the Order of Meiji. It is awarded to those who have made distinguished achievements in research, business, healthcare, social work, state/local government, or the improvements for the handicapped. The document is in very good to fine condition, the badge bears a chip on one of the white enamel rays but is otherwise also very good.
