Description:

HINDENBURG ZEPPELIN TICKET MENU CERTIFICATE NAMED GROUPING
A great group of five original items given to Julius Heinrich Arp for his July 25, 1936 flight from Rio De Janeiro to Frankfurt on board the famed airship ‘Hindenburg'. Includes: the original printed ticket numbered 393, issued to Arp for the 96-hour flight; a specially-printed brochure for the flight, 4.75 x 8 in., titled ‘Dedicated to our Passengers' and containing much detailed information about the airship including a list of guests, crew members and their roles, specs for the airship, navigation route, and so forth; an original sheet of official ‘Hindenburg' air mail stationery; a menu for lunch and supper on Saturday, July 25, 1936, with offerings such as ‘Wiener schnitzel', ‘perch filet Gypsy style' and ‘Tournedos [beef] Helder with green beans and potatoes'; and a somewhat eerie, 1p. partly-printed personalized engraving, 7.5 x 9.5 in., showing ‘Aeolus…the son of Hippotes, a friend of the immortal gods and rightful ruler of the winds…' bestowing a favorable flight on Arp and the airship. This etching perfectly captures the Nazi obsession with Greek mythology that permeates so much of its iconography. Expected foxing and light toning, overall very good condition. Five pieces.
