Description:

677A. HEINRICH HIMMLER An extraordinary association item, a commemorative album issued honoring the infamous Dachau concentration camp, presented and signed by the camp's ultimate administrator, Heinrich Himmler. The album bears beige fabric-covered covers with the front cover bearing an SS emblem on a round, black field. Within are twelve 4 3/4" x 3 1/2" photographs mounted on individual pages depicting events on Himmler's 1939 visit to Nazi Germany's first concentration camp. Himmler is prominent in many of the photos, which include images of him strolling the grounds, reviewing prisoners, visiting a porcelain works, reviewing Waffen-SS troops, a torchlight ceremony, etc. The first page bears a calligraphic inscription: "To Herr Lt. Col. Prockl in memory of his visit with the SS on April 25, 1939", boldly signed by Himmler beneath. Light soiling, with spotting affecting several images, else very good. After the Nazis took power in 1933 and suspended civil rights, they were able to round up political opponents without opposition. The new Nazi-appointed police chief of Munich, Heinrich Himmler, had Dachau built to handle the overflow from the jails. $2,500 - 3,500
