HIGHEST RANKING BLACK OFFICER POSES WITH HIS SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR STAFF A fine image of one of the most important individuals in Black military history, then-Major Charles Young, Third African American graduate of West Point, first black U.S. national park superintendent, first African American military attaché, and highest ranking black officer in the United States Army until his death in 1922). He poses in a group photo with the junior officers of his unit, the all black 9th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 14" x 11" on heavy board. Young is easily identified in the center of the image, standing slightly to the viewer's left behind the seated junior officers.
