Description:

HERMANN GORING
(1893 - 1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. A RAGING GORING BEGS HITLER'S CONTACT FOR OPIOIDS Superb content, early A.L.S. on his personal letterhead with his family crest, 2pp. 8vo., Stockholm, May 11, 1925 to 'Fraulein Wuren[?] at 13 Blumenstrasse, Munich, likely a well-connected lady and close associate or secretary of Adolf Hitler. In part: 'Dear Fraulein, Ten days ago I sent an express letter to Pentzhofer asking him to provide a medication that is not available which we urgently need. It is 'Eukodal' in ampules in 0.02. If necessary, he should go to Dr. Klemza at his return address [at?] the party of the S.A...and return 6 of 10 pieces in various express letters or express packages. The proof is a sample of the value or warehousing[?]. I will send the letter as soon as I know, unless it is worth it. But I did not receive a clear answer from Penhofer. Is he not in Munich or what is wrong?...and ask him if I can write to you about what is going on with you...Many thanks from my colleague and myself...' With holograph envelope. Damp stained with a clean, mended0 tear at the top and intruding into the text, still very good. Hermann Goring developed a morphine addiction after suffering a severe hip injury and gunshot wound during World War I and the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch, respectively. He was prescribed morphine to relieve the pain, leading to addiction. The Eukodal so urgently sought by Goring was a brand name for oxycodone, a synthetic opioid painkiller created in Germany in the early 20th century, similar to but stronger than morphine. Like other opioids, Eukodal had a high potential for addiction. By the spring of 1925, when this letter was written, Goring had become a violent morphine addict, beating a nurse who had refused him his drug of choice. Carin Goring's family was shocked, and they, with Carin, placed Goring in Langbro Asylum on Sep. 1, 1925 where for a time he was secured in a straitjacket until he became 'clean'.
