Description:

HERMANN GORING
(1893-1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. GORING THANKS BURCKEL FOR REVIEWING ‘ARYANIZATION CASES' CONFISCATING JEWISH PROPERTY Fine content T.L.S. 1p. legal folio, Berlin, Mar. 2, 1939, on his Generalfeldmarschall letterhead to JOSEF BURCKEL (1895-1944) German politician, Gauleiter of the Saar Palatinate and Vienna who promoted anti-Jewish decrees, seized Jewish property, and deported nearly 50,000 Jews to their certain deaths. In part: ‘…I am very grateful to you for undertaking the review of the Aryanization cases…In the meantime I have several commissions whizzing around the Reich, which carry out checks where I have justified doubts about a flawless settlement, especially where the district has worked very strongly in its own interest. I have gained a lot of experience here and, above all, have found extremely difficult cases and thus averted damage to the Reich…'. He also asks Burckel to send him occasional reports of his progress in Vienna, and asks if Burckel can manage with his own staff and has a clear overview of the matter. The Aryanization program, in which Jewish property, intellectual and material, was transferred to non-Jews, thus removing them from economic life in Nazi German and its Axis Allies, began in 1933 and reached its apex after Kristallnacht in 1938. As Reichskommissar for the Annexation of Austria, Burckel claimed that Vienna was ‘overfilled with Jews' and established the ‘Central Agency for Jewish Emigration in Vienna', which was responsible for the forcible removal of Jews and of course later deportment and murder. Near fine.
