HERMANN GORING'S PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHS - HERMANN GORING REGIMENT
A very rare grouping of eight original photographs once owned by Hermann Goring and bearing his archival stamp on verso: 'Der Reichsmarsschall des Grossdeutschen Reiches Photoarchiv', each image 6.75 x 4.75 in. b/w. A fine grouping showing Goring with baton in hand reviewing the Hermann Goring Division ca. 1940, the images showing him reviewing troops, at a flag raising, inspcting field artillery, a panzerfaust, motorcyclists, and armored personnel carriers. One photo bears a light crease, else fine condition. Sold with the collector's typed descriptive slips, ca. 1960s. Goring kept many dozens of photo albums, most of which now reside in the National Archives. The 1st Paratroop Panzer Division Hermann Goring (abbreviated Fallschirm-Panzer-Div 1 HG) was a German elite Luftwaffe armored division. The HG saw action in France, North Africa, Sicily, Italy and on the Eastern Front during World War II. The division began as a battalion-sized police unit in 1933. Over time it grew into a regiment, brigade, division, and finally was combined with the Parachute-Panzergrenadier Division 2 Hermann Göring on 1 May 1944 to form a Panzer corps under the name 'Reichsmarschall'. It surrendered to the Red Army near Dresden on 8 May 1945.
