Description:

HERMANN GORING'S PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHS - BERLIN ZOO TOWER
A very rare grouping of five original photographs once owned by Hermann Goring and bearing his archival stamp on verso: 'Der Reichsmarsschall des Grossdeutschen Reiches Photoarchiv', four images 9 x 6.75 in., the last being 4.5 x 6.75 in., all showing Goring during a visit to the famous Zoo Tower anti-aircraft emplacement in Berlin, inspecting the flak cannon and meeting the gun crews. Generally very good. Sold with the collector's typed descriptive slips, ca. 1960s. Goring kept many dozens of photo albums, most of which now reside in the National Archives. The Zoo Tower was a fortified flak tower that existed in Berlin from 1941 to 1947. Its primary role was as a gun platform to protect the government building district, but it also served as a civilian air-raid shelter, and contained a hospital and a radio transmitter for use by the German leadership and provided secure storage facilities for art treasures.
