HERMANN GORING PROMOTES A FUTURE KNIGHTS CROSS RECIPIENT
(1893 - 1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured, and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. Partly-printed war-date D.S., 1p. 10 x 13.75 in., 'Fuhrer Headquarters', Sep. 30, 1939, the promotion of Major HANS KORTE to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Goring signs at lower-right, just below the lithographed signature of Adolf Hitler. With blind embossed seal at bottom, a few trivial spots else very good. Sold with the front cover of the original presentation folder with large gilt national eagle, the cover a bit soiled and worn. Hans Korte (1899–1990) would command Kampfgeschwader 55, 13. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division, 1st Parachute Division, and 2.(Torpedo)/Flieger-Division. He would be promoted to the rank of general major and be awarded a Knights Cross. Korte surrendered to British troops in May 1945 and was interned until October 1947.
