Description:

HERMANN GORING
(1893 - 1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. Excellent association T.L.S. on his Reichsmarshal letterhead, 1p. large 4to., Berlin, July 13, 1940 to BENITO MUSSOLINI (1883-1945), dictator of Italy, who has also underlined, endorsed and initialed the letter. Goring discusses an import-export trade agreement involving aluminum, essential for aircraft production. He asks that Mussolini immediately arrange the delivery of an initial shipment of 8,000 tons of aluminum oxide ore with an additional 2,500 tons to be sent every month per their agreement. He adds: "...With reference to our meetings in Rome...I am in full agreement to the return delivery each month of 400 tons of processed aluminum and 400 tons or recast aluminum to be used by the Italian Air Force...". At top Mussolini writes in indelible pencil: "For Favagrossa" and adds his initial "M". Carlo Favagrossa served as Italian Under-Secretary for War Production. This letter illustrates the symbiotic relationship between these Axis powers: here Italy provided the raw materials to Germany which in turn provided Italy with the manufacturing facilities to manufacture the essential metal. A few foxed spots at magin, else very good.
