Description:

(1893 - 1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. Partly-printed D.S., 2pp. 4to., Berlin, March 24, 1937, an elaborate certificate promoting then-'Oberleutnant' of the reserves Dr. Hellmuth Oetker, later commander of the Luftwaffe's 'Luftgau-Nachrichtenregiment 11' (Air District News Regiment 11), to the rank of Hauptmann (captain) in the active-duty Luftwaffe. The certificate is signed at the conclusion by Goering in black ink, with a blind-embossed wreathed national eagle at bottom left. Shows a very faint ink spot, else in fine condition. The document is accompanied by six additional pieces related to Oetker's life, career and service, including: Typed D.S., 1p. 4to., Hamburg, April 3, 1940, awarding Oetker the 'Eisernes Ehrenschild' ('Iron Honor Shield') of 'Luftgau XI' ('Air District XI'). The presenter, Lieutenant-General LUDWIG WOLFF (1886-1950), signs at the conclusion in violet indelible pencil. Shows small folds at the corners, else very good. WITH: Partly-printed D.S., 1p. 8vo., Hamburg, June 20, 1940, an award certificate granting Oetker the Clasp to the Iron Cross, Second Class. Ludwig Wolff again signs at the conclusion in violet indelible pencil. Very good. The photo has torn loose from two staples, with additional folds, soiling and small tears to the backing sheet, else very good. WITH: partly-printed document, 1p. 4to., Hannover, Aug. 20, 1939, an award certificate granting Oetker the 'Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938', better known as the 'Sudetenland Medal'. The document bears the name of Ludwig Wolff in type and the stamped facsimile signature of another officer. Shows small folds and a small tear to the bottom edge, else very good. WITH: two additional certificates related to Oetker, including a typed L.S., 1p. 4to. Guetersloh, April 21, 1938, a letter of congratulations signed by the mayor of that city, as well as a partly-printed certificate, 1p. 4to., commemorating his wedding on October 28, 1945.
