Description:

HERMANN GOERING
(1893-1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. Important content T.L.S. 'Goering' as Commander of the Luftwaffe on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Nov. 1, 1938, thanking the German ambassador of Spain for his work in exchanging German prisoners after the Spanish Civil War. In large part: 'Your excellence! I thank you very much for your efforts in the exchange of the imprisoned Germans and the transmittal of the information of your government. I am convinced that these successes are based on the forceful action of the Spanish National Government. On this occasion I would like to point out that so far six aircraftman have been exchanged [Goering adds the holograph correction: 'not 10'] but no officers so far. There are two officers already since eleven month in captivity...I will therefore be particularly grateful if Your Excellency would be good enough to point out this situation for further exchange negotiations since the situation of the prisoners is very bad and their fate is still uncertain'. Signed 'Goering' at the conclusion. Two punch holes, light spots of foxing, one tear at the right edge. With blind-embossed Luftwaffe eagle at top. A very rare document from the Spanish Civil War, which ended one year later and involved much support from Goering and his German 'Condor Legion'.
