Description:

(1893 - 1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. A fine association pair of important signed items, includes: D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Berlin, June 4, 1941, a telegram from German Crown Prince WILHELM (1882-1951), son of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Wilhelm informs Goering that his father has passed away, in part: "My father, the formerly reigning Emperor and King Wilhelm the Second, fell asleep gently after a brief illness on 4 June... in Doorn [Netherlands]. My father has willingly expressed that the funeral ceremony should be as simple and quiet as possible, and that his mortal remains should be buried in Doorn." above the message at center-right, Goering executes his initial "G" to acknowledge that he has received the message, with a second unidentified initial added in pencil to the right. Shows minute paper losses to the right-hand corners, with file holes to the left edge, else very good. WITH: D.S., 1p. oblong, 8vo., Berlin, June 6, 1941, a second telegram from Wilhelm to Goering, thanking the Luftwaffe chief for his message of heartfelt sympathy and honor in response to the Kaiser's passing. Goering again executes his initial in green indelible pencil above the message, with the same unidentified pencil initial appearing again to the left. Shows file holes to the left edge, else very good. Two pieces.
