Description:

HERMAN GRAF
(1912 - 1988) Luftwaffe World War II fighter ace, served on both the Eastern and Western Fronts and credited with 212 victories, 202 of which were on the Eastern Front. War-date printed D.S. 'Herm. Graf' 1p. tall 4to., Paris, Jan. 1, 1943. In part: '…Today I get to return all the warm congratulations on my achievements and awards over the past few months. The constant change in location during the operation, lack of time, and…lack of paper and envelopes made it impossible to reply beforehand…I do not take your heartfelt congratulations for myself alone, but [extend them] to the brave ranks of our front-line soldiers who strive…to do their best…for our beloved leader and greater German homeland…With this in mind we march with hope into the future…Long live our leader, the fight and the victory!...'. Just three months before this letter, Graf shot down his 200th enemy aircraft. Folds, signed in pencil, very good.
