Description:

HERMAN GORING'S LEATHER WRITING PORTFOLIO
HERMAN GORING (1893 - 1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. A rare personal possession, a leather writing portfolio attributed to Hermann Goring. The portfolio measures 9 x 11.25 in. closed and 22 x 11.25 in. open (overall) and is covered in black grained leather with a locking silver latch. Above the latch appears Goring's family crest imprinted in gold with his initials 'H G' appearing just beneath. Within the piece is lined in red burgundy silk and has 12 sheets of blotting paper bound within. One of these sheets is partially used, though it is impossible to conclusively say that the writing is in Goring's hand. There is also an integral pocket which would have contained writing paper. Within this pocket was contained an 8vo. engraved dinner menu also bearing Goring family crest for a dinner Goring hosted in Berlin on Feb. 27, 1939. Some wear to the outside of the portfolio, else very good to fine. From a Northeast collection untouched since 1970.
