Description:

(HERBERT HOOVER)
(1874 - 1964) 34th President of the United States whose attempts to reverse the course of the Great Depression led to his defeat at the polls by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Photograph, 15 x 18 in. b/w (sight), a noted campaign photo of Hoover standing in a lightly wooded area while holding his favorite dog, King Tut, by his front paws. Near fine, framed. King Tut was a Belgian Malinois and Herbert Hoover's favorite of his family pets. The Hoovers acquired Tut from a friend around 1922, when he was probably one or two years old. Tut moved with them to the White House but was later sent back to their former S Street house after he grew less comfortable with life at the White House. King Tut was taken care of by the Hoovers' good friend, U.S. Senator Frederic Collin Walcott, who was renting the house on S Street. Tut died on October 14, 1929.
