Description:

1498. JIM HENSON (1936 - 1990) American puppeteer, creator of The Muppets and a co-creator of the children's series Sesame Street. Rare A.L.S. "Jim Henson — The Muppets" 1p., 4to., Bethesda, n.d. but March 30, 1960, on his imprinted letterhead to James E. Fox. In the year of his graduation from the College of Home Economics, he writes: "...Thank you very much for your nice note. The records we use usually come from the WRC...This is an album called 'Offbeat Folksongs' sung by Bob Gibson — I believe it's a Riverside album. The number is called 'A Horse named Bill,' and I think it's very delightful also...". As a freshman in college, Henson had created Sam and Friends, a five-minute puppet show for WRC-TV. The characters on Sam and Friends were already recognizable Muppets, and they included a primitive version of what would become Henson's most famous character, Kermit the Frog. A rare letter of Henson at age 23 and the beginning of his extraordinary career, with original holograph envelope. Very good. $150 - 200
