Longfellow', 4pp. 8vo., Cambridge, Nov. 25, 1853 to American diplomat ELIHU BURRITT (1810-1879), who founded the peace organization the League of Universal Brotherhood and supported peace movements worldwide. Longfellow writes his friend, who had just returned to civilian life in the U.S. after a long career in the U.K., in part: '...I have just had the pleasure of receiving your friendly greeting, and hasten to say how glad I shall be to see you again after your long absence. You will find me at home every afternoon and evening, except Saturday, when I usually go to Boston. The mornings are not as certain as I am generally engaged during the early part of the day.' Simply framed with a window on the reverse to view the second and third pages. Fine.
